    1.  Introduction

    Anchor1.1  Background

Senate Bill 530 was passed to require fitness assessment for all students in grades 3-12 starting in the 2007-2008 school year. The Texas Education Agency identified FitnessGram as the assessment tools that will be used by all districts throughout the State.

The Health and Physical Education (HPE) initiative involves two, SEPARATE components--click the titles of each to see more technical information--including the following:
    1. FitnessGram: This initiative is state-mandated and described in this letter from Texas Education Agency (you can also find out about the initiative from CNN News). The focus is to prevent diabetes, obesity and measure fitness. It involves centralized tracking of fitness information. It requires setup of a FitnessGram database on an WOISD SQL Server with multiple client machine installations. This link also addresses audio recordings of TETN broadcasts, Randy Killian-Smith's key points, and data import/export recommendations.
